What is Affirmation?

What exactly is an affirmation? An affirmation is a statement or a thought or an idea that you constantly repeat to yourself. You can repeat it silently or you can repeat it out loud. What we fail to realize is most of the time we are affirming, but what we don’t realize is that, we’re not consciously affirmed into things that we want to show up or the qualities that we want to exhume. So, we oftentimes, we affirm  worries. We have thoughts of worries, thoughts of black, and thoughts of limitation. We are not creating our life on purpose or consciously.

Conscious and Subconscious Mind

Positive Affirmations are useful or powerful in the work, because they help to reprogram our subconscious mind. As many of you may know, we have two parts of our mind. We have a conscious mind, which basically is responsible for 5% of our life, our goals, and our bodily functions. 95% of what is happening in our lives is governed by our subconscious thoughts and our subconscious beliefs.

Our subconscious mind was programmed when were younger by our parents and this is no judgment against our parents, because I do believe that most of our parents, our caregivers, or people who we spend a lot of time with, were just doing the best that they could with the knowledge and information that they had.

Based on their programming, we started to develop a blueprint in our mind and unfortunately, often times, what went into this blueprint wasn’t good for us. It was limiting beliefs. That really didn’t help us to live with purpose, to live and show up in this world in a powerful way.

Most of us go around looking for other people’s approval and it started out when we were younger. We were looking for the approval of our parents and we would shift our behavior to conform to how our parents think, what we should be, or how we should show up.

Then we develop that habit and move through life looking for the approval of our bosses, our business partners, our friends or colleagues, our husband,  our wives, and our children. We then realize that all the approval that we need resides within us. We need to improve ourselves. As we approve ourselves, as a byproduct, other people will begin to approve of us.

You can write them in a small journal. Put them in your purse. You can put it in your car. Make it a habit. When you’re getting in your car, repeat the affirmations.

I do it at my desk when I work and when I wake up in the morning. I wake up at five o’clock and repeat my affirmations in front of the mirror. You can do it, whatever feels good to you, and whatever works for you. The only thing you need to do is just do it, so the way that you do it doesn’t matter. Just do it and repeat them often.

You will begin to see transformation in your life.
