I’m going to give you my top six tips on Self-Care or how to take care of yourself so that you can avoid overwhelm, fatigue, burnout, or getting sick. Basically, these are things that happen when you don’t take care of yourself.
These things are super important and not just one of them, all of them combined are super important. So, it’s definitely vital that you listen to all of the tips on self-care.
Now, in terms of these tips, I am not going to cover the obvious. Obvious means eating healthy, getting enough sleep, drinking water, and exercising. So, what I’m not going to do in this article is cover those obvious things that have been said countless times on these types of articles.
I’m going to discuss with you things that might not be an obvious, that might appear as a luxury, but they’re not expensive things. Sometimes you may think, “Oh, I don’t have time for that and it’s not really important,” when it actually is and it can make a huge difference.
Let’s get started on these top six tips on self-care or how to take care of yourself.
Release Yourself from Guilt
Tip number one on self-care : How to take care of yourself is releasing yourself from guilt. So often we get busy. I feel so guilty if I don’t get everything done on my to do list.
I feel guilty and the guilt makes me feel so tense and uneasy. So, the very first thing if you want to enjoy anything from these six tips, this I feel is the most important. Release yourself from guilt.
You’re only human. You’re doing your best and if you feel that you’re not doing your best, then let that go as well. You can always do better next time. So stop feeling guilty about what happened in the past and what you weren’t able to accomplish. Take a moment, let that go.
You could engage in meditation or do some journaling on this subject. Just releasing, working towards releasing that guilty feeling in your body will do wonders for your physical health and your mental health.
Listen to Your Body
Number two tip on self-care : How to take care of yourself is listen to your body. If you’re tired, take a break and rest. If you’re hungry, eat something. If you’re feeling tight, stretch and move around. If you have a stomach ache, if you have a headache, listen to your body. Those are pain signals that are telling you to slow down, that something is wrong. You need to listen to the signals that your body is giving you. For instance, with me, I was having a very severe headache for four days straight and I was like, “What is happening? I can’t stop. I have to keep going and have things to do.” I just kept going and kept pushing. I began having a sinus infection. It just got worse. So, avoid that by listening to your body.
Tip number three on self-care : How to take care of yourself is hygiene. Obviously, we need to be clean in order to feel good. So, take a shower every day, that’s an obvious one. Brushing your teeth and washing your face are things that you do regularly, that’s not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about taking care of the little things like getting a manicure, or doing your own manicure or pedicure, taking care of your hair, taking care of your skin, getting your eyebrows done, or doing them yourself. For these things, they don’t have to be a huge expense.
You don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars and go to a spa, you can even self massage. There are tons of ways such as foam rollers and yoga balls. There are tons of ways that you can even relief out your muscles, such as a foot massage at home.
These things may seem trivial, and that’s what I was discussing earlier in the article. They may seem like a luxury, but you don’t have time to do this, because it’s not that important. In fact, it makes a huge difference.
So, just take the time out to not think about work or distressing events. Go out and just focus on yourself. That act alone is going to help you in taking care of yourself a little bit better.
When your hair and skin look nice and feel healthy, it’s just a little bit of a boost and extra boost that you’re giving yourself that may seem too little, but actually it makes a huge difference.
Clean Your Space
Tip number four tip on self-care : How to take care of yourself is clean your space. This has been said quite a number of times as well, but it must be reiterated because it really affects me personally. I know that a lot of people can relate. When my space is cluttered, when I haven’t done laundry in a while, my dish is piling up in the sink, and when things are unorganized, my mind feels so much more Stressed and I feel so overwhelmed.
It is so important for your own well-being to make sure that your space is clean and organized. Just doing a little bit every day helps as well. For instance, yesterday, I put all of the dishes in the dishwasher. If I did not put the dishes away, they would still be in the back of my mind.
Clear Your Head
Number five tip on self-care : How to take care of yourself is clear your head. If you have a lot of things on your to-do list and you feel overwhelmed, try taking out a notepad and a pen and jot those things down. If writing doesn’t work for you, you can always record yourself with a voice recorder or app on your phone.
I’ve done both and they make me feel so much better. I’m a very visual person. I like to write things down and see them. If you resonate more with sounds and listening, give the voice recording an option. You have to get that long to-do list out from your mind onto the paper. If you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, this is also super important in taking care of yourself.
You’re not just taking care of your body, but also taking care of your mind. Our minds definitely affect our body. So, you have to make sure that both are equally taken care of.
Finally, here is my six self-care tip on self-care : How to take care of yourself is treat yourself. Maybe along the lines of feeling like a luxury, you don’t have time to do it right now. Take yourself out. Go for a nice walk. Do something that you enjoy, go somewhere that you enjoy, and do something at home that you enjoy. You can watch some Youtube videos, you can watch a movie, or do something to treat yourself as a reward.
Again, this is probably best if it’s not super expensive or if it’s actually free. If you’re worried about money, then doing something expensive is going to stress you out even more. Even if it doesn’t stress you out in the moment, it stays in the back of your mind.
So, take this as something that might be free or very inexpensive, like going to Starbucks and having a coffee. It is also a bit dangerous that some people might reward themselves with unhealthy food. You just have to pay attention to what negatively triggers you and your own personal processes.
Please be careful and don’t reward yourself with things like unhealthy food or expensive things . These may trigger unhealthy habits. So, you want to be very aware of what is an unhealthy habit for you personally and when you decide to act on the tip and treat yourself.
Be sure that you’re treating yourself with something smart, something that is not going to have a negative effect on you and it’s going to actually promote positivity and a healthy mindset for you.
